Prioritizing yourself during busy times: A self-love perspective

Hey there, lovely readers! 🌸

Let’s talk about busyness. You know, that overwhelming, non-stop feeling when life turns into one giant to do list? Yep, been there! Between long shifts, juggling responsibilities, and trying to meet everyone else’s expectations, it can feel like there’s no room left for you.

Here’s the thing, though: if you don’t take care of yourself, who will? Self-love isn’t just a luxury; it’s the foundation that keeps you going, even during the busiest of times. And trust me, I’ve had my fair share of days when prioritizing myself felt impossible. But I’ve learned (and am still learning!) how to carve out moments for me, and I’m here to help you do the same.

So grab a cup of tea, get cozy, and let’s dive into some practical and self-love centered ways to prioritize yourself, even when life feels like a whirlwind.

___

1. Learn the art of saying "no" (without guilt)

Let me paint a picture: it’s been a long week, and all you want is to curl up with your favorite show. But then someone asks you to take on just one more thing. Sound familiar?

What i’ve learned:

⚠️ Saying "no" isn’t selfish, it’s self-preservation. You can’t pour from an empty cup, and overcommitting only drains you further. It’s okay to set boundaries and prioritize what truly matters (hint: you).

How I do it:

🌱 Politely but firmly say, "I’d love to help, but I’m at capacity right now."

💅 Remind myself that every "no" to others is a “yes” to me.

⚡️ Practice in front of the mirror if I feel awkward, it works, I promise!

💡 Self-love reminder: Saying "no" doesn’t make you a bad person. It makes you a person who values their time and energy.

2. Schedule "me time" like an important appointment

You know how you wouldn’t miss a meeting or a doctor’s appointment? That’s how serious you should be about your me time.

What my "me time" looks like:

💝 A 20 minute tea break in total silence (blissful, right?).

🌿 Journaling my thoughts after a busy day, it helps me decompress.

💌 Pampering myself with a quick skincare routine, even if I’m exhausted.

Why it works:

When you block out time for yourself, it sends a message: I’m worth it. Plus, it gives you something to look forward to during hectic days.

💡 Try this: Open your planner or phone calendar right now and block out at least 15 minutes a day just for you. Treat it as non-negotiable.

___

3. Simplify where you can

Let’s face it: busy times call for prioritization. You don’t have to do all the things, and sometimes, good enough is perfectly fine.

My busy day hacks:

🪻 Opt for easy meals on hectic days, think sandwiches or noodles.

🌻 Say "no" to perfection. Laundry can wait, and no one’s judging your messy bun.

🥀 Use tools like timers and to-do lists to focus on what’s truly urgent.

Why it matters:

Simplifying doesn’t mean slacking; it means being strategic with your energy. When you free up mental space, you’ll feel more grounded and less stressed.

💡 Pro tip: Pick one area of your life to simplify this week whether it’s meal prep, your workday routine, or your weekend plans.

4. Check in with yourself regularly

Here’s something I’ve started doing recently, and it’s been a game changer: mid-day check-ins.

How I do it:

☀️ Pause for a moment and ask myself, "How am I feeling right now?"

🌈 If I’m overwhelmed, I’ll take a few deep breaths or stretch.

🍒 If I’m doing okay, I celebrate that little win and keep going.

Why it’s important:

Checking in keeps you connected to yourself. It’s easy to lose track of your emotions when you’re busy, but taking just a minute to acknowledge them can make all the difference.

💡 Your turn: Set an alarm on your phone as a reminder to check in with yourself during the day.

___

5. Ditch the guilt around rest

Can we normalize taking a break, please? Rest isn’t laziness, it’s essential.

What rest looks like for me:

🥨 A quick nap between shifts (no shame in a 15 minute power snooze!).

🍦 Reading a few pages of my favorite book before bed.

🍪 Simply sitting in silence with my tea, letting the day melt away.

How i’ve let go of guilt:

🧸 Reminding myself that rest is what keeps me productive in the long run.

🎲 Viewing rest as an act of love for myself, not a luxury.

💡 Self-care tip: Schedule at least one full evening this week for guilt free relaxation. You’ve earned it.

___

6. Surround yourself with positivity

During busy times, the energy around you matters so much.

What I do:

🌷 Curate my social media feed to include uplifting, inspiring content (no toxic vibes here!).

🍩 Spend time with people who uplift me even a quick phone call with a supportive friend helps.

🪶 Keep positive affirmations handy, like "I’m doing the best I can, and that’s enough."

Why it helps:

Positivity is contagious, and surrounding yourself with good vibes makes it easier to stay motivated and centered.

💡 Try this: Write down one positive affirmation and stick it somewhere you’ll see it often, your mirror, phone, or planner.

7. Remember that you’re a work in progress

Let’s be honest: prioritizing yourself during busy times isn’t always easy. Some days, you’ll nail it; other days, it’ll feel impossible and that’s okay.

What I tell myself:

🍫 Progress over perfection, always.

🌼 Every little step I take toward self-love matters.

🎀 Even on hard days, I’m still showing up, and that’s something to celebrate.

Why it matters:

🌸 Self-love is a journey, not a destination. Give yourself grace, and remember that every effort you make to prioritize yourself is a win.

💡 Motivation reminder: Celebrate your small wins whether it’s saying no, taking a break, or simply surviving a tough day.

A final self-love pep talk

Life gets busy, but here’s the thing: you deserve to be at the top of your priority list. When you take care of yourself, everything else becomes more manageable. And no, it’s not selfish, it’s necessary.

So this week, I challenge you to choose you. Say no when you need to, rest without guilt, and find joy in the small acts of self-care that keep you going.

You’re doing amazing, even if it doesn’t always feel like it. Keep showing up for yourself, one step at a time.

Now, tell me: What’s one small way you’ll prioritize yourself this week? Let me know in the comments, I’d love to cheer you on!

With love and a big virtual hug,
Fathima 💗
