Weekend calm: How to recharge and reconnect during a busy season

Hey there, lovely readers!

With the end of the year approaching, life can feel like a whirlwind. Deadlines, family commitments, and an endless to-do list, it’s easy to get caught up and forget about taking a moment to breathe. For us as Muslims, finding calm amidst the chaos is not just about self-care; it’s also about nurturing our hearts and strengthening our connection with Allah.

This weekend, let’s take a step back and focus on recharging, reconnecting, and finding peace, even when life feels hectic. Here’s how I’m planning to unwind this weekend and some tips to inspire your own reset.

___

1. Start with gratitude

One of the quickest ways to ground yourself is by focusing on what you’re thankful for. Even in the busiest seasons, there’s always something to appreciate.

How I'm practicing gratitude this weekend:

✍️ writing down three things I’m grateful for at the end of each day.

Why it works:

Gratitude shifts your focus from stress to serenity. It’s also a beautiful way to remember Allah’s countless blessings.

2. Prioritize salah and dhikr

When life gets busy, it’s tempting to rush through our prayers or put off extra acts of worship. But salah and dhikr are the ultimate sources of peace.

My weekend plan:

πŸ“Ώ Making dhikr throughout the day, even during chores or errands. A simple “SubhanAllah, Alhamdulillah, Allahu Akbar” can calm the heart like nothing else.

πŸ’‘ Your reminder: Salah isn’t a break from life; it’s a break for life. Let it rejuvenate you.

3. Get outside and connect with nature

Spending time outdoors is an underrated way to reset your mind and body. Nature is a powerful reminder of Allah’s creation and mercy.

What I’m doing this weekend:

🍫 Taking a quiet moment to watch the sunrise or sunset, it’s a simple yet profound reminder of Allah’s control over everything.

Why it’s powerful:

Being in nature reminds us of our place in the universe and helps put our worries into perspective.

4. Practice self-care with intentionality

Self-care isn’t just about pampering yourself; it’s about taking care of the amanah (trust) Allah has given you, your body, mind, and soul.

This weekend, I’m planning to:

πŸ₯¨ Prepare a simple, nourishing meal and enjoy it without distractions.

πŸ¦‹ Take a short nap if I need to recharge.

πŸ’‘ Your turn: Think about what your body and soul truly need right now, and make time for it without guilt.

___

5. Reconnect with family and friends

Strengthening relationships is an act of worship in itself. Sometimes, all it takes is a meaningful conversation or a simple gesture to deepen those bonds.

What I’m doing:

🎲 Calling a loved one I haven’t spoken to in a while just to check in.

🌸 Spending quality time with family, even if it’s just sitting together for tea or helping out with household chores.

Why It’s important:

Building and maintaining good relationships is part of living a balanced life, and it’s something we’re rewarded for in this dunya (world) and the akhirah (hereafter).

___

6. Reflect and set intentions

The weekend is a perfect time to reset your mindset and prepare for the week ahead. Reflecting on where you are and where you want to be can help you stay focused and motivated.

My reflection plan:

πŸ’Œ Journaling about how I’m feeling and what I’d like to improve in the coming week.

πŸŽ€ Setting one or two small goals that align with my values and priorities, like making more dua or focusing on a specific sunnah practice.

πŸ’‘ Pro tip: Keep it simple. The goal isn’t to overwhelm yourself but to refocus your energy on what truly matters.

___

7. Make time for joy

Let’s not forget that joy is also part of self-care. Finding halal ways to have fun and unwind is so important for our well-being.

This weekend, I’ll be:

πŸ’ Watching a wholesome, feel-good movie or series that makes me laugh.

🍩 Giving myself permission to do nothing for a while, it’s okay to simply relax!

___

8. End with dua and trust in Allah

As the weekend winds down, I love to end it on a positive, hopeful note by making dua. Whatever’s on my mind, my worries, my hopes, my gratitude, I lay it all before Allah.

How I’m doing it:

🫢🏼 Trusting that whatever happens, Allah’s plan is always better than mine.

πŸ’‘ Your reminder: Dua is your direct line to Allah. Use it often and with sincerity.

Make this weekend YOURS!

The beauty of the weekend is that it’s a blank slate. Whether you’re working, running errands, or trying to squeeze in a bit of relaxation, remember that you deserve time to recharge. Even small, intentional acts can make a big difference in how you feel.

So, what’s your plan for this weekend? Share your ideas in the comments, I’d love to hear them!
